NewRetirement.Com – Review

This is a sponsored review of NewRetirement.com, a site dedicated to retirement planning for all categories necessary in a comprehensive plan. It is aimed at both current seniors and those in the planning stages. If you are a boomer like me you can’t get enough information and this site definitely belongs in your bookmarks.

There are five major areas to explore and are described in more detail below. I found myself spending a lot of time reading at this site because there is plenty of information pertinent to my situation and yours. This is what I found:

Community

Here you can browse through a multitude of categories including Financial planning, healthcare, finding jobs and so on. A complete list of topics is way too long for this post. Suffice to say you will find what you are looking for here. It is interesting to read the different approaches people are taking along with their reasons. There is a search feature if you are looking for one thing in particular. You can post your own experiences here if you register.

Retirement Services

Here you will find a series of Posts that not only explain topics, such as “what is a reverse mortgage”, but also links to companies that have those products or services. Seek first to understand and then act on your new knowledge. That’s a good combination.

Retirement Calculator

On the home page is a free retirement calculator to help the planning process. For anyone who hasn’t done this before, it can be quite an eye opener the first time through. It is always a good place to start. From there you can explore your alternatives for fixing your plan if need be. The younger you are when you do this the better off you will be. I must confess I haven’t used this particular calculator but its there if you want it.

Retirement 101

This is a learning center where you can find out about key issues in the process. I would recommend reading through this section before doing the calculator. Your problem areas will become clear as you develop your own plan. Knowledge is power.

My NewRetirement

This is where you will login, assuming you sign up for an account (at no cost to you). Registering will enable you to save your calculator data and also enable you to interact in the Community area. This is a good place to pickup latest news on retirement issues, which is presented to you immediately after login. You can also sign up to receive e-mail notification of news or services from vendors.

My Take

Overall I found the site very interesting. As a boomer it is aimed directly at me, which is why I spent quite a long time there. I don’t like fluff and I felt the writers had first hand experience of the issues.

There were some minor text overlaps on the home page and some delays when clicking on the main tabs. Don’t let those minor issues detract you from getting at the meat inside. This is a site that belongs in your repertoire of information resources. I have bookmarked it and also registered at the site. You can’t have too much information in this watershed time of our lives. Bookmark this one.
