Birthday Balloons Never Looked This Good!

One of the great things about having eleven grandchildren is all the birthday parties (not to mention all the cake and ice cream!) Their parents do a great job at keeping us (all!) amused and we always have a grand time. We have just celebrated a birthday and this time they did things a little differently. We met at a local park which had a nice large shelter, grills and woods. While the hamburgers and hot dogs were cooking we had water balloons to keep us amused. They brought plenty of water balloons and a sling shot to launch them with. Now there’s a winning combination for you, kids and water! All you need is a target and that’s where the dads come in. It wasn’t long before there made up there own games which invariable means trying to hit someones dad!! They also had a couple of rocket launchers and the kids did a great job of retrieving the rocket between take offs.
After we had all eaten cake we took off into the woods to explore. The kids were fascinated by the young men playing Frisbee golf (that’s a new one on me) and let their imagination loose as they made animal noises and ran and hide from each other.

No party would be complete without balloons but when we arrived we were thrilled to see balloons that really soared; six hot air balloons were stretched out on the field being readied for the skies! Their brilliant colors and designs were eye catching and the kids picked out their favorites as they watched the balloons being filled (not as easy as it sounds). When there were full enough you could hear the noise of the hot air and the balloons gradually becoming upright. What a sight to see them being released and floating effortlessly upwards. Little arms and hands waved them goodbye
But there was more to come! No sooner had the balloons left when the local sky divers ended the evening with an exclamation point. We didn’t realize when they took off that they would be landing very close to where we sat. We watched their descent and cheered as,party-balloon.jpg one by one; they landed in spectacular style in front of their thrilled audience. What a treat!
It was loads of fun and I’m not sure that plain old party balloons will ever do again! Hmmm … wonder what they have planned for the next birthday?
