It’s hard to believe that this year is the 10th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death. Diana died on August 31st, 1997 at the age of 36. Millions mourned her death and the outpouring of public sorrow was on a scale rarely seen and left no doubt that she was loved and truly was the “people’s princess”. Her sons, William and Harry haven’t spoken publicly about it until recently.

Matt Lauer’s recent interview of Prince Harry and Prince William gave some interesting insight into how the young men have coped with the tragic of losing their mother in such a public arena. The interview was conducted at Clarence House, their official residence in London and the main objective was to talk about the memory of their mother, Diana, and their plans to commemorate the 10th anniversary of her death. It was very obvious from the conversations that both Harry and William loved their mother and wanted to infuse their own ideas into the plans for the celebration: they wanted it to be something their mother would have enjoyed .William said the concert was planned as a celebration and “to have fun” and would represent “exactly what our mother would have wanted”.

The celebration will be a pop concert at the new Wembley Stadium in London today and will include an impressive array of artist including some of her personal favorites Elton John and Duran Duran and a performance from the English national Ballet and Andrew Lloyd Webber will perform a medley of songs from his shows.

He went on to say: “We’ve decided that it’s going to be called Concert for Diana, because obviously the evening is going to be purely about her. It’s to remember her and to commemorate her life and celebrate it.” Money raised from the concert will go to charities the princess supported.
It was also obvious from the interview that the brothers are close and helped each other get through the very difficult time. They were very guarded about other areas of their lives, particularly their romances. This is probably due, in part, to protect them against the overpowering media pressure that they would have to endure.
All in all I think they appeared well adjusted, charismatic, caring young men who would have made their mother proud.
