This summer don’t just load your iPod with all your favorite music to distract you on a long flight or keep you company on the beach .Get the most out of your iPod when traveling by getting a downloadable phrase book or walking tour.

These programs will enhance your visit and have definite advantages over the more traditional phrase books and tour guides.
Phrase Books: Read, listen and say it.
With a traditional phrase book you will probably struggle with the pronunciation once you have found the phrase. This is where a language program such as iSpeak will win you over; it lets you scroll to the correct phrase, read the text and actually hear the phrase. No more guessing about pronunciation! If you are like me, hearing the text makes the phrase a lot easier to repeat and much easier to learn when it’s presented in this way. Not only that, but it gives you more confidence when trying to converse in a different language. iSpeak is available in Spanish, French, German and Italian and costs $12.95.
CyraKnow offers the Rambler audio phrase books created specifically for iPod-savvy travelers. They are available in French, German, Italian and Spanish and help both the new and seasoned travelers learn the nuances of pronunciation and basic phrases for each language in a short period of time.
Talking Panda’s ILingo offers six European and four Asian languages (Talking Panda, $49.95 for Europe, $39.95 for Asia)
Tour Guides.
If you enjoy sightseeing but want to try something different from the traditional tour guide or walk then enhance your sightseeing with a downloadable tour guide. There’s no tour guide or pre-set schedule to follow here. You can sightsee at your speed and with your hands free, no guide books to carry around.
If cities like Paris, Rome Florence, and Salzburg are on your agenda then you might try IJourney audio walking tour guides and listen as you walk. Downloads cost $14.95
AudioSteps sell downloads of multiple guided walks in five US cities and three English cities for $12.00 each and include approximately an hour of audio.
If you are looking for unusual themed tours then check out Soundwalk. Based out of New York City, they offer over a dozen New York neighborhood themed tours including a Hip-hop Walk in the Bronx and the Ground Zero Sonic memorial Sound walk they mix atmospheric music and sound effects in addition to the narrations, They also offer tours covering parts of France and India. Each tour runs for about an hour for $12.95
Enjoy your summer travels!

What a great idea! I would never travel without my iPod, especially since audio books are a great way to stay awake on the road, but being able to download walking tours is something I never thought of.
Sigh…I can only imagine at this point…but this sounds like an awesome tool!
I need a virtual reality one!!
