I noticed on my Social Security statement that if I had a disability I could fast-forward to my full retirement age by effectively receiving a disability check that is almost the same amount as my full retirement age check. Not that I want disability but it did make me curious. What constitutes a disability? After reviewing a few pages at the government web site I decided that wishing for a broken body or near death experience is not for me. However, if your are unfortunate enough to qualify then you can visit the following links:
Preliminary conditions to be considered for disability
Standard list of impairments that qualify.
Evidence requirements
Special situations
How to apply
Benefit calculator
If your issue is not on the list then Social Security will determine if your condition is equal to those on the list. If so you can still claim disability.
