I stopped for gas the other day and couldn’t figure out how to pump the gas. I was just about to walk into the store and ask for help when a young man with a big smile on his face came running out to help. He was very gracious and didn’t once call me an idiot. In fact he made me laugh and t made me think of the virtues of the young and how important it is to mix with all age groups to keep a good perspective on life.
I believe that most things in life work better in balance and I think that is the reason that living in a retirement community doesn’t appeal to me. (yet!) I think it would be a real shame to only mix with people of your own age, no matter how old (or young) you are. I know these communities offer some very real benefits but who’s going to remind you that the perfectly manicured lawn isn’t really so important or that life is a great adventure. What would life be like without a regular injection of youthful fun and exuberance? Pretty boring I’d say. I’ve tried to image working with a group of people all of my age and its not appealing. I know that employers value the work ethic of my age group but I am sure it’s true that we also have a tendency to talk far too much about our ailments, the weather and the price of gas. Not to mention that we can be inflexible with our views and think that we know all the answers.
Yes, without that piece of youthful excitement life, irreverence for danger and love of life it would be a mighty dull place .
This impression of Bush made me laugh
To get back to my youth I would do anything in the world, except take exercise, get up early, or be respectable

I care about our young people, and I wish them great success, because they are our Hope for the Future, and some day, when my generation retires, they will have to pay us trillions of dollars in social security”
