Kids

I thought it would be fun to compare kids lives today versus mine some 50 years ago give or take a few. This is what I see:

Today: Kids have cell phones that communicate with anyone in the world.

Me: I had a piece of string stretched between two tin cans.

Today: Kids can watch videos on cell phones or I-pods.

Me: I had a comic.

Today: Kids get cars for graduating High School.

Me: I got a job.

Today: Kids have televisions.

Me: We had one TV on the block and it wasn’t in my apartment.

Today: Kids travel with their sports teams.

Me: I went to Grandmas.

Today: Kids travel to sports in vans and carry their team bags full of gear.

Me: I walked to practices and games and carried my gear in a brown paper grocery sack.

Today: Kids can’t go far from their parents on their own.

Me: It was never an issue back then.

Today: Kids are getting shot in schools.

Me: Nobody had a gun except for hunting.

Today: Fishing poles are purchased at the store.

Me: Fishing poles could be made.

Today: Kids have computers.

Me: What’s a computer?

Today: Kids use calculators.

Me: I eventually got my own slide rule. (Mechanical calculator)

Today: Kids learn to drive in school.

Me: I got a bike.

Today: Happy

Me: Happy

There is a moral there.
