New Looks For Insulin Pumps

For many diabetics the insulin pump has become the preferred method for managing their diabetes. By using an insulin pump, they can match their insulin to their lifestyle, rather than getting an insulin injection and matching their life to how the insulin is working. Most people with diabetes are more concerned with the daily hassle of managing the disease than the long-term complications.

The number of diabetics is on the rise and the number is expected to increase from 240 million to 380 million worlds wide by 2005. The increasing numbers are making the manufacturers of insulin pumps rethink the way their devises look and work. Since people are often self conscious about taking insulin shots or using the conventional pumps the devise makers are looking for new ideas. It has a screen that displays glucose levels, measured up to 288 times a day, from a fine needle that is lodged in the skin of the abdomen.
