It has only been relatively recently that women have made decisions about buying a car. Even the once rare sight of seeing a woman drive has been replaced with the common place sight of women at the wheel in all sorts of vehicles for work as well as for pleasure. Here are some interesting facts:
Overall percentage of female drivers is rising, while overall percentage of male drivers is decreasing
80%of American women over age 65 operate an automobile
52.2 percent of all new vehicle purchases are made by women — up from 20% in 1984 and 40% in 1989.
Women influence the purchases of 80 percent of all the vehicles sold in the United States.
Women spend about 3 times as much time on buying a car as a man does
Sport utility vehicles are quickly becoming women’s cars — 40% of all SUV sales are to women, and the proportion is growing.
Females account for 40% of the buyers in the American light-truck segment, which includes SUVs and pickup trucks that can go off-road.
Women are failing their driver’s license road tests at nearly twice the rate as men according to the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) data from January to September 2007.
Of the 3.3 million truck drivers registered in 2004, 147,420 were women, according to the American Trucking Association
What do women look for when buying a car? The answers might surprise you .In a survey by Lease Traders. Com the number one answer by far, was fold-down rear seats. An automatic open and close hatchback was also high on the list and ranked number two. The biggest vote getter for least useful was a sunroof.
