I would like to share something with you that will certainly get you thinking if you ever considered how you are going to remember your loved ones or even how they might like to remember you. What I’m talking about is something called a The Life gem and it is a unique and totally unconventional memorial to those you love. In reality, The LifeGem® is a certified, high-quality diamond created from the carbon of your loved one….
Now this might be hard to get your mind around at first but I can see that, for some people, it might be a way to feel connected to their loved ones especially if the diamond is set into a ring or pendant that you could wear as a constant reminder of them. The process isn’t as macarb as it sounds. The company originally captured carbon from existing remains after a standard cremation. They still can and do use this method but they are now able to capture carbon from a lock of hair which seems pretty amazing to me.
So, how do they convert the carbon into a high quality diamond? Well they heat the carbon to extremely high temperatures under special conditions and that converts it to graphite with its own unique characteristics. It is then put into a diamond press and when heat and pressure are applied a rough diamond crystal is formed. Diamond cutters then facet the diamond according to your wishes and they will even certify it for authenticity!
Pretty strange stuff although I suppose it’s no different from keeping someone’s ashes in an urn on the mantle and is probably a lot more attractive. Personally, I’m not going to loose any sleep over what happens to me once I’ve bitten the dust and if someone can make a diamond out of me then more power to them. Heck, I think I’m worth more dead than alive!
