Boomer Targets (So What’s New about That?)

Scanning through the “blogosphere” with my “blogovision” goggles I came up with some interesting headlines. This one caught my attention; “Valuable Insights into the Hearts, Minds and Wallets of Today’s Boomers”. Just when I thought it was safe to retire I, and you, have big targets on our backs. Believe it or not there is something out there called “The Boomer Project”. This appears to be a research/marketing organization aimed directly at explaining (selling something) to other Marketers about what I (and you) will and won’t be doing down the road. Of course we have been aging since conception but for some reason this time frame is different. Anyway, here are a few lines that make me chuckle:

“Here is this week’s piece on boomers and health (or lack thereof)”

“Why market to boomers? Because that’s where the money is stupid.”

Merk’s attempt at getting my attention: “I didn’t know shingles had the potential to be serious. More importantly, I didn’t know I was at risk.” That ad will make me take notice!

Let’s focus on the problem, hearing loss.” Let’s not.

Cast the message in the positive and you’ll catch more fish” I’m not a fish!

AmericanLife TV is a small cable network targeting me (us). They plan to run ads featuring famous boomer’s kids talking about their famous boomer parents. I can’t quite see how that will impact me in a positive way. Maybe that’s why they are a small network.

Some people are “concerned” about older people getting swindled out of savings like we suddenly become an easy mark. I like this line; “apparently when you get old you also get stupid.”

“First, with all the technology and tools we Boomers are using so we don’t have to use our own memories to retain information, what exactly will we be using our brains for as we grow older?” I think we will use our brains to store all those passwords for all those memory gadgets. Oh, I forgot, I have to write those down too. I need a gadget for passwords Mr. Marketer.

Here’s a new term I like; “Boomergeddon”. I think I’ll start using it.

I appreciate the entertainment and give credit to “Boomer Consumer – The Blog
