Three Predictions for 2008

All politicians running in the primaries are beginning to sound the same. “I’m for change” they say. I would like them to explain exactly how. Still, that’s not the purpose of this post. My prediction is that by summer there is only going to be one major issue in play, and I’m reminded of Bill Clinton’s “it’s the economy stupid”.

The scenario:

  • The economy appears to be sliding into recession.

  • Gas prices are already at record highs for this time of the year. Who knows how high they will be in the summer.

  • Unemployment is rising.

  • The stock market is weak. (Yes, its already around that 10% number)

Apart from the housing crisis and cost of health care I haven’t heard too many tuning into this changing economic momentum. The storm clouds are gathering in an election year. This is going to be fun as we watch them react.

The beneficiary of this could be Romney because of his business background, if he survives long enough. The fact that he is a Republican isn’t going to help him this year.

My Second Prediction:

Bush will come out with an economic stimulus plan to shore things up because his job is to remove all negatives that stand in the way of a republican victory.

My Third Prediction:

He will fail.
