Sometimes the candidates can’t help themselves; sometimes they just inherit labels that take a long time to shake off. Case in point; the current primary candidates have brand awareness but may not like the label(s). It’s the first thing you think of, or image that comes to mind when their name comes up. Some of it is earned, some of it is by what makes the news the most often and some of it is created by continual associations. Unfortunate but true and here is my list of perceptions (mine only):
Hillary Clinton – Bill Clinton’s wife
Barack Obama – The black candidate
John Edwards – Runner up
John McCain – War
Rudy Giuliani – 9/11
Mitt Romney – Mormon
Mike Huckabee – Preacher
Fred Thompson - Actor
It’s going to be hard to pick one out of this bunch but consider a couple of former Presidents and their status at this point in the race:
Ronald Reagan – Actor
Bill Clinton – Who?
Some of the people above have no chance and some need to broaden their appeal to win. The last two show that it can be done. I can’t help but wonder if some Democrats vote for Hillary to get Bill back in the White House.
